Summer Chess Camp - 8/17/2019

It’s summer vacation time and kids feel like improving their games in a fun atmosphere?  Tokyo Bilingual Chess Club's Summer Chess Camp was held on August 17, 2019 and had 10 students in total who all enjoyed a combination of classroom instruction and playing chess, as well as fun outdoor time with the lunch and snack time!  Players were divided into two groups of similar strength to maximize the learning experience.

Each group had sessions with different instructors.

This format allows the instructors to tune each session to the strengths and needs of the students.  It's almost like one on one instruction from some of the top names in chess in Japan.  Group B was taught by TBCC Director, CM Alex Averbukh.  During the day, basic endgame techniques were covered, building to more advanced concepts.  The top class, or "Master Class", was taught by IM Ryosuke Nanjo, the 2019 Japan Chess Classic Champion.

Small class sizes and top notch instructors make this camp a great opportunity to hone kid's game.

We hope this camp thrives for years to come. It was created to provide full-day care so that parents can leave their children for the day with confidence that camp will be fun and educational. And having multiple levels allows our students to receive targeted training from our level-appropriate and experienced teachers.

We had the August birthday celebration that will be lasting a memory.  Party was super fun for our little chess enthusiasts and friends. Special thanks to Emi Hasegawa, a photographer, who provided beautiful photos and helped our chess camp for interested students.

We hope that every player goes home feeling like a winner!  Once again, thank you to all who participated and everyone for supporting our programs!
