JUICE OPEN TOURNAMENT 2021

Tokyo Bilingual Chess Club's Juice Open Chess Tournament 2021 was small but fun this Saturday, June 19, 2021. There were a total of 9 players vying for various trophies and prizes.   The field of 9 players was split into two sections, an open section (Class A) and a U1000 section (Class B). The kids and parents were all great and we couldn’t have asked for a better group.

The Tournament Director, CM Alex Averbukh settled any type of dispute that arose during the game.  There are only 3 players in Class A, therefore, we had a special tournament; Puzzle Battle Tournament, in addition to regular games.

Class A winners for the Puzzle Battle:

Class A: Lira Yoshida with 6

Class A: Shota Osaka with 3

Class A: Kai Tatsumi with 2

When two or more players ended up with the same score, we usually have a blitz chess play-off, in which they play one game of five-minute chess to determine who wins which trophy.  Since two players were brothers and did not want to play a tie-break game, we skipped the tie-break for the 3rd place.

Class B winners:

Class B: Yoshiaki Uno with 5.0/5.0

Class B: Perry Spratt with 4.0/5.0

Class B: Uy Hoang with 2.5/5.0

Class B: Vuong Hoang with 2.5/5.0

The 1st place winner of each section received free entry for the next scholastic chess tournament this summer.

We would like to thank you to all the parents for your support.  Congratulations to the winners, and a big thank you to all the players who came out to compete.  The next batch of tournaments is just around the corner, so be sure to register for your chance to win.
