Spring Chess Camp - 3/24/2018

As another amazing spring comes to a close, the Tokyo Bilingual Chess Club wants to thank all our campers, staff and families for being part of the TBCC family!  A good mix between activities, chess theory, coaching, tournament games, analysis, and a birthday party.  TBCC's spring camp held on March 24, 2018 was small but fun. With 2 coaches for 12 kids everyone was able to get lots of individual attention and form some really great connections.  Whether your child is an intermediate player (Group B) or an advanced player (Group A),

this chess camp is designed to be the perfect place to learn, develop new skills, and explore new (and fun!) challenges.  Group A gathered the most kids - 6 young and talended chess players (including a traveler, Woosung Lee, from Korea!) led by Camp Director - CM Alex Averbukh, who put a tremendous amount of effort into the camp. 6 players in Group B were extreamely focused and concentrated during the camp, led by Kevin Izquierdo, and therefore showed amazing results.

Our young campers are taking full advantage of having run-of-the camp decorated with the beautiful scents and colors of cherry blossom. TBCC  donates a portion of the profit from the chess camp and scholastic tournaments as well as your thankful donations to the Ishinomaki Children's Newspaper. It is a newspaper reporting on Ishinomaki today, written by the children of the town, where was hit by the Great East Japan Earthquake.  Thank you to all the parents that have invested in our program (and cookies, cakes, and a gumball machine!).

We are  sure there were a lot of happy campers at this birthday party!   Kids had a cake and an ice candy to celebrate their fellow camper's birthday party.  March birthday boys received a gift to enjoy.  Again, a huge thank you to everyone for all of their help and support! Special thanks to CM Takuma Osaka to volunteer as an arbiter during a mini-tournament.  As always, thank you for being the best photographer, Emi Hasegawa, in the chess world!

We look forward to meeting you all again in the Inter-school Chess Championship on April 14, 2018!
